FAQ
Who would be able to help stray animals?
Anyone and everyone has the ability to help a stray animal. When it comes to volunteering, some shelters have age restrictions (18+), but most shelters would accept help from anyone.
What can I do to help stray animals?
Whether it's volunteering, bringing a stray to a shelter, donating money, or donating supplies, a small act can go a long way. You can save an animal's life by doing something as simple as feeding it once or twice.
Where are some local shelters that I can volunteer at?
There are shelters located all around the U.S. and Michigan. Some common shelters and organizations in the southeast area of Michigan include: The Humane Society of Livingston County, the Michigan Animal Rescue League, the Almost Home organization, and the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter.
When should I take a stray into my home, or bring it to a shelter myself, or have the shelter pick up the stray?
When you see a stray animal, you may want to take it into your home immediately, but you have to take precautions before you do so. If you do not plan to take the stray to a shelter, bring it to the veterinarian first. Therefore, you will know that the animal is healthy. Although, it is always good to bring the animal to the shelter, whether you want to keep it or not. The shelter can properly care for the animal, while they search for it's original owner(s). If the stray looks unsafe to handle yourself, keep an eye on it, and call an animal shelter. The shelter will have professionals take the stray off your hands ("How To: Report A Stray").
Why should I care and/or volunteer?
Whether you care about animals or not, you will be happy knowing you helped, maybe even saved the life, of a helpless animal. Also, volunteering can look great on college and job applications, so why not volunteer where help is needed?
